Micron Technology, the global leader in semiconductor memory technology, is making the largest private-sector investment in New York State history and we’re ready to meet the moment in Onondaga County, New York. Execution of the company’s 20-year, $100 billion plan is officially underway and the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency (OCIDA) is quickly assembling the ecosystem of tech partners needed to support Micron.
OCIDA is here to support tech-related investments in Onondaga County, which is positioned to become a national leader in semiconductor memory production. In addition to 1,200+ acres designated for development throughout our county, the agency owns the 105 shovel-ready acres at White Pine Science & Technology Park right next to the Micron campus already buzzing with construction equipment. The first wafer out is projected for 2030.
That’s coming soon and we’ve already spent years developing the abundant infrastructure needed to meet the moment. Onondaga County has 12 MGD water capacity ready to supply new developments, more than 4,000 MW of excess power available and newly expanded wastewater utilities along with expanded road, rail and air transportation to support new projects. OCIDA is also fueling workforce development in partnership with nearby colleges, universities and trade organizations to reinforce an existing advanced manufacturing labor pool of nearly 300,000. We’re also developing the pipeline with middle and high school programs that help add to the 8,200 local graduates who already enter the workforce with engineering degrees each year.
